Re:Zero: Subaru did not have the Return of Death In the Original Version

In a 2015 interview, manga artist Tappei Nagatsuki, author of the Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) franchise, revealed that Subaru, the franchise’s protagonist, lacked the ability to ” Return from Death” in the original idea of the work.

According to the interview, the original idea was not to make the character Subaru go through the loops, that is, he would not have the return of death, in addition the author also confirmed that the story would start with the arc in which Subaru and Emilia fight and the cult. witches appears and has the entire fight against the White Whale.

The author, Tappei Nagatsuki, began publishing the light novel independently through the Shousetsuka ni Narou service in April 2012, and later, publisher Kadokawa began paper publishing with illustrations by Shinichirou Ootsuka in January 2014.

The work inspired an anime adaptation that so far has two seasons. The first season aired in April 2016 and featured a total of 25 episodes. The second season was split into two parts, the first part aired in July 2020 and had 13 episodes. The second part only aired in January 2021, and had 12 episodes.
