Netflix announced via their official Twitter account that following the massive success of Stranger Things Season 4, series creators Ross and Matt Duffer have started a new production company called Upside Down Pictures.
The new company will create film and TV projects for Netflix. Among the many projects in development, Tsugumi Ohba‘s Death Note is getting a new live-action adaptation.
- The live-action of One Punch Man already has a director
- The Killer Inside is getting a live-action adaptation
Death Note received a live-action film adaptation by Netflix in 2017. It should be noted that the first live-action adaptation was not well received by fans.
Now that the makers of Stranger Things are producing the series, fans can expect it to be a lot better than its predecessor. The new live-action adaptation will not be a sequel to the 2017 live-action film.
The Duffer Brothers‘ new company, Upside Down, will also adapt Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 novel The Talisman, a horror novel with a theme similar to Stranger Things.
Speaking to Deadline, Matt Duffer revealed that the new series will be more fantasy, more science fiction than Stranger Things.
