Our glimpse of villain Vecna in Stranger Things Season 4 is a threat that rivals the strength of Eleven (Melee Bobby Brown), as she appears not only to be a physical threat, but has supernatural abilities. Given that the series’ previous threats were more brutal in nature, fans had a lot of questions about how Vecna would enter the new season, and her relationship to the Upside Down, Hawkins, and other characters in the series. Fortunately, the first segment of season four provided insight into the character’s origins, with those episodes now streaming on Netflix.
Spoilers Warning: For Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1
For most of the season, Vecna appears sporadically at Hawkins and kills several victims, using telepathy abilities to contaminate their victims in tormenting poses, before returning to the Upside Down. The reason the pair joined the call of XI is because the pair had crossed paths years ago, as they were both subjects of Dr. Brenner’s (Michael Modine) at Hawkins Research Facility.
Thanks to a series of flashbacks, viewers learn in Episode 7 that Vecna was originally an organizer who looked after eleven youths prior to the events of the series’ first season. The pair form a friendship, which leads to a well-planned attempt to help Eleven escape, using her abilities to remove the implants in the neck of the system that weakens her powers. The organizer then ransacks the research facility and kills several others who are being tested for their abilities. He then reveals that, having received numbers instead of all other names, he is Dr. Brenner, the first test subject at the facility.
The organizer then named himself Henry Creel, who moved with his family to Hawkins when he was a young boy. Henry is fed up with humanity and begins to devise a way to use his telepathic powers to gain freedom, which he does by killing his mother and sister with his abilities, for which he blames his father. holds. goes and gets imprisoned. The act caused Henry to be hospitalized, and eventually referred to as Dr. Brenner’s custody so that he could become one.
Young Eleven and One clash with the forces of telepathy, apparently resulting in Henry’s murder, although he is actually exiled to the Upside Down. Henry’s time in The Upside Down disfigures his body in horrifying ways, seeing him devise a plan to continue terrorizing Hawkins during his years in the Underworld and possibly to achieve his initial goal of ending humanity. .
As fans of the series know, villains earn nicknames based on threats from Dungeons & Dragons, which is why our hero Henry/One is called Vecna.
Stranger Things Season 4 – Volume 2 debuts on Netflix on July 1, which could stir up more Vecna -focused narrative themes.
