During a special broadcast, it was announced that the original Mononoke anime will have an animated film that will be released in the year 2023 in Japan.
The press release confirmed that this will be a completely new project, separate from the one released in 2007, and confirmed that Kenji Nakamura (C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control, Gatchaman Crowds) will return to direct this feature film, with production from Twin Engine.

The first promotional image for the project was drawn by Yaeko Ninagawa, the illustrator for the manga adaptation of the anime.
The original series was produced by studio Toei Animation, under the direction of Kenji Nakamura, characters by Takashi Hashimoto and music composed by Yasuharu Takanashi, which ran for a total of 12 episodes and premiered in July 2007.
A manga adaptation by Yaeko Ninagawa ran in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine between August 2007 and August 2008. It should be noted that the franchise is a spin-off of the Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror anime.
