Studio Science SARU officially announced during the Annecy Animation Film Festival the production of its next original project, which will be titled Garden of Remembrance, and directed by director Naoko Yamada. The statement confirmed that the project will debut in 2023 in Japan.

Veteran director Naoko Yamada previously helmed several productions at Kyoto Animation studio before switching the studio to Science SARU in 2021.
At Kyoto Animation, she directed some of the studio’s most iconic works, such as K-ON!, Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice), Liz to Aoi Tori (Liz and the Blue Bird), Tamako Market, and Tamako Love Story. In addition to directing the series, she was also the director of the series Hibike! Euphonium (Sound! Euphonium).

- Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice, K-ON!, Tamako Market) is directing the project at Science SARU studio.
- Etsuko Mizusawa (Moshimoshi, Terumi Desu) is in charge of character design and animation direction.
- Singer Lovely Summer-chan is in charge of composing the soundtrack.
Description of Garden of Remembrance Anime
According to Eunyoung Choi, producer and co-founder of Science SARU, she came up with the idea for Yamada to create a short film focused on music. With that, the two arrived at a theme and managed to arrive at the production concept, creating a “poem” that will be passed on to music by Lovely Summer-chan, who Yamada described as an “invincible girl”.
Yamada also commented that he decided to call Mizusawa to design the characters because of the look of real girls that the artist manages to create, being able to feel their cuteness.
